Arco Rockmaster

This past weekend I attended the Arco Rockmaster Festival which is a Masters competition with a qualifying Open round. I decided to only do lead this year as well as the Speed Climbing World Cup. In the Speed World Cup, I almost beat my Personal Best (8.83) with a final time of 8.91. Full results HERE. This was very good preparation for the upcoming Lead and Speed World Championships in Spain. In Lead, I cruised through the semi finals route by placing second. In the Final round, which is after work, I placed 3rd after narrowly beating Jakob Schubert from Austria. The winner for the first time was Sachi Amma from Japan and second place went to Francesco Vettorata from Italy. On the final day of the event was the highly anticipated “Duel”. For those of you who don’t know what it is, it is Speed Lead climbing. This was the final Duel from 2013. The route is easier than in qualifications but the goal is to go fast. I qualified in third place and slowly made my way up the ranks. Here is the final race for 1st and 2nd with good friend Jakob Schubert.

Awesome vid. Wish climbing wasn’t so hard to come by but they do try and encourage simple walls at local elementary schools. 😉

Hi Sean, my boys and I are huge ANW fans and we just finished watching USA vs the World. As soon as your picture popped up, my son Gavin said, Hey! I know him! He was a counselor at Camp Hidden Meadows!! So while we were disappointed that USA didn’t win, we were thrilled with your performance. It was more like USA vs Sean McColl. Well done! We will definitely keep watching your career. (Incidentally, we were at Utah Olympic Park when you were competing in August but didn’t attend the competition. Had Gavin known you were there, we would have definitely gone! Will you compete again next year? Congrats on that win too. I guess all this success means you aren’t going back to CHM … 😉 Ha! Take care.

Thanks for the support. I will hopefully be attending both the Psicocomp as well as ANW in 2015, as long as I’ve invited 🙂 Too bad you missed Psicocomp this year, but it was pretty fun. A unique design and very entertaining for the audience.

Oh and Gavin says, Hi! He remembers that you liked to do the slack line at camp and tried a flip 🙂 Let us know if you come back for ANW! In another “small world” coincidence, I’m old friends with one of the executive producers of ANW, Holly Wofford. So if you do compete next year, let us all know and we will come see you. I liked your FB page.
